It used to be that getting through a full day without charging felt like an accomplishment. OnePlus is about to make that worry obsolete. The company just confirmed its upcoming OnePlus 15R will pack a massive 7,400 mAh battery, officially making it the largest in any consumer smartphone you can buy in North America.
OnePlus dropped the news ahead of the phone’s December 17 launch, and honestly, the specs are wild. The OnePlus 15R battery isn’t just big for show. It uses Silicon Nanostack technology with 15 percent silicon content in its anode, which basically means more power in the same space. OnePlus says it’ll keep at least 80 percent capacity after four years, even if you’re rough on it.
It also charges at 55W with SUPERVOOC fast charging, so you’re not waiting around forever. Here’s the crazy part: the recently launched OnePlus 15 has a 7,300 mAh battery, which means the cheaper 15R actually beats its flagship sibling. We’re talking roughly 48 percent more capacity than the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 5,000 mAh battery and way more than what the iPhone 17 Pro Max offers.
Custom-built chipset and stunning display
The battery’s not the only interesting thing here. OnePlus confirmed the 15R will be the first phone globally shipping with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. OnePlus and Qualcomm spent 24 months working together on this chip specifically for the 15R. That level of collaboration usually only happens with flagship phones, so it’s pretty cool to see it in a more affordable device.
The display looks solid too. You’re getting a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED screen with 450 pixels per inch. It goes from blinding 1,800 nits brightness down to just two nits by default, or one nit if you turn on Reduce White Point. OnePlus also snagged TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification, which means your eyes should handle extended viewing sessions better.
There’s also Plus Mind AI built in, which you access through the dedicated Plus Key button. Tap it once and whatever’s on your screen gets saved to Plus Mind. The AI can create calendar invites, organize data, and help you find stuff later without digging through apps.
The OnePlus 15R drops alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 on December 17, 2025. If past OnePlus R series pricing is any indication, this thing will undercut flagship competitors by hundreds while delivering specs that compete with phones twice its price.
