“There’s only one John Madden – they didn’t make another one!” Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the first teaser trailer for the Madden movie – out to watch at Thanksgiving 2026 a year from now. This teaser initially aired during the NFL games on Christmas Day this week. From director David O. Russell following his last movie Amsterdam (ugh), comes this true story of the one-and-only football maven John Madden. Madden follows the football legend from Super Bowl glory with the Oakland Raiders to revolutionizing the game with the video game Madden NFL. The very first version of the football video game debuted in 1988 (as “John Madden Football”) for MS-DOS & Apple II, evolving during the 1990s. Starring Nicolas Cage as John Madden, with Christian Bale as Al Davis, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, John Mulaney as EA founder Trip Hawkins, Sienna Miller, Shane Gillis, and Joel Murray as Pat Summerall. This looks extra kooky & fun – reminds me of that Tetris movie Apple TV made recently. Stay tuned for more in 2026.
Here’s the first teaser trailer for David O. Russell’s movie Madden, direct from Prime Video’s YouTube:

“There is only one John Madden.” 🏈 Inspired by a true story. After being forced into retirement by the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, fiery former NFL head coach John Madden (Cage) then teams up with a mild-mannered Harvard programmer to rewrite his fading legacy by building the world’s first football video game. Madden is a biopic movie directed by problematic American filmmaker David O. Russell, director of the movies Spanking the Monkey, Flirting with Disaster, Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Joy, and Amsterdam previously. The screenplay is written by Cambron Clark and David O. Russell. It’s produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, David O. Russell, Jonathan Shukat, Steve Tisch. Made by MGM Escape Artists, SMAC Entertainment. Amazon MGM debuts Russell’s Madden movie streaming on Prime Video starting Thanksgiving 2026 – in November next year.
