Amazon MGM Studios has welcomed the addition of an iconic actress, who will be starring alongside Game of Thrones vet Sophie Turner in Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series. Production is expected to begin on January 19, 2026.
What do we know about Sigourney Weaver’s Tomb Raider role?
According to Deadline, Alien and Avatar alum Sigourney Weaver has entered negotiations to join the cast of the live-action Tomb Raider series. It hails from creator, writer, and executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has been attached to the project for over two years now. The show will also be executive-produced by co-showrunner Chad Hodge and director Jonathan Van Tulleken. Besides Turner, Martin Bobb-Semple (Pandora) has also previously been tapped to join the show as a series regular.
Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps, but it was initially described as an epic globe-trotting adventure. This marks the latest live-action adaptation of Crystal Dynamics’ hit video game series, following Angelina Jolie’s popular Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movies, and Alicia Vikander’s 2018 remake. As part of her overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Waller-Bridge had signed on to serve as the project’s writer and executive producer.
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she’d explode,” Waller-Bridge said in a previous statement when the series was officially announced. “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
